I made this powder horn for my good friend Swampy to go with a new flintlock smooth bore and other accoutrement's he is compiling for his Revolutionary Militia arsenal.  I made this horn from a raw horn that he furnished that is very thick walled and very egg shaped through out the horn body.  I had to give this horn a slow heat several times and hard pack the body interior with sand to help push out the body wall and round it some.  All engraving was period style for the time, with Militia markings, his name and other accent decorative engraving.  Horn was color dyed and given a light amber patina to add some aging.  There is about thirty hours work in this horn.  A both challenging and fun horn project!

Horn the way I received it.

After heat rounding. Note thick horn wall!

After horn is near completion, I start laying out and start engraving.
