Gonna have to try again when I catch up on my honey do list. Still have some leg bones lyin about

Blackfeet

Yeah, I am going to do the other end of this bone this weekend if I can get away for a while. I am surely going with a brass cap over the end of the bone this time

crazell

when your done post a pic. thmbsup

Blackfeet, found another leg bone, gonna give it another go, much slower this time.

Blackfeet

I look forward to seeing it. I have the end of this one rounded and am going to try to fit the bolster to it this weekend. This end has much more character than the other but less surface to do artwork. I had another idea that you may want to work into yours. I am thinking that the full length groove in the bone would be an ideal spot to fit a nipple pick. Just have to figure a mounting method. [hmm]

ErikPrice1@msn.com

Maybe fairly small rounded staples, you would have to watch out for splintering, but predrilled it might work.

Blackfeet

I was thinking perhaps some tight wraps of sinew around the bone
with the pick underneath with a sinew tether? [hmm]

ErikPrice1@msn.com

That would look cool, and in an event of damage easy to repair.

Blackfeet

So Brokenhawk, how is it going so far? Better luck? I was thinking that you may have better luck filing out the bulk of the marrow with a small round file. and route out the plug with a dremel, less chancy than a drill press. As I said, I am hoping to get some time this weekend to do the other half of this one, then have to wait for more bones to dry

Try soaking the bone in vinegar for a week or so, as this will slightly soften it!  Works good on horn too!

Haven't started drilling the new leg bone, will try the vinegar trick. Great idea. Thanks

Blackfeet, tried another leg today, I think there too old and brittle. Got a spot in the woods where I find alot of dumped carcasses, will go there tomorrow and see if I can find some that are fresher.
