Stock Refinishing

I know that it has been posted here before. But now I can't find it. Has Anyone ever tried using Formbys wood refinisher on a factory stock? Thompson Center?  I want to strip mine off and fix a few dings - then refinish... Any helpful info would be sure be appreciated. Such as what is a good satin-oil finish? I have read some GREAT helpful links here... Thank You   Tim

I used it when stripping off my Shenandoah.  Worked well with no problems.  Well, except for softening a few spots in a fiberglass bathtub but it was in the spare bathroom.  I'll be stripping off a CVA stock tomorrow.  If you hose off the residue, be sure to let it dry thoroughly before sanding.  Wetting the wood will have a tendency to raise the dinged areas also.  You'll want those to be dry before sanding them to avoid making sanding marks.   

For the Traditions, I just used walnut watco oil.  It's ok but not a very dark finish.  I reckon if I went over it on a more regular basis, it would get darker.  For the CVA, I think I'm gonna try Birchwood-Casey Tru-Oil on it.
