AUSTIN HALLICK .50

After a 10 day tour of who knows where, courtesy of the usps, my .50 cal. Austin Hallick flintlock finally found it's way to me here in Ohio from Mississippi.
It is supposed to be a early production gun (20 years or so) marked, AUSTIN HALLICK - PROVO UTAH , just enough use to give it character. It goes well with my .54 cal. GPR I assembled several years ago.

nice ! I have one in percussion . would have preferred flint ,but sometimes you just gotta settle . I like the lines of the austin hallick  , and they are good shooters , even the fast twist conical barrels are accurate .

I like the stock profile on that Austin Woody.   My first impression was it had a lot more drop at the heel than the Great Plains.  But when I put a straight edge against the pictures they are almost exactly the same.

Interesting optical illusion. It's the flow of the lower line of the buttstocks that does it. I much prefer the look of the A&H, but your mileage may vary.... Both very nice rifles.

Thanks guys. I think I like the A&H stock a little better also, but I'm very happy with both.

the gpr stock has a bit of a belly , I ever get another one I think I`ll rework the stock and see if I can take that out . think it would make for a much nicer looking rifle !

A few years back when A&H folded they sold these off real cheap at Sportsmans Whse. in SLC and Provo. I missed out too late. Nice rifles.

Dang!  Now I'm thinking about doing a little carving on my Great Plains .54 flintlock.  It wouldn't take a lot to change the profile considerably.

Actuality the semi Perch Belly is not so bad??
It was somewhat common I think??

Very nice rifles, Had to look at my gpr stock.  Never noticed the belly before.             Also noted: from some of the pictures posted here of members, it is quite common, But a perch belly probably more like Beer Belly

looked at several pictures of original hawken rifles , and that belly thing with the gpr must have been awfully rare . have`nt been able to find one like it ! they advertise the gpr as the closest thing you can get to a real hawken for the price , be a hell of a lot closer if they reworked the stock design a bit ! dont get me wrong , I`ve owned 3 of them and liked every one , but just saying !
