What would be the correct hawk for early 18th century (1733- ) Georgia? Who makes one?

It depends on what you want to do with it, camp axe, throwing axe, showing axe 1. belt axe is good 2. I like hammer pole axe for throwing 3. brass pipe  axe is a beutiful show axe. check out a site called sitting fox forge all his axes come from original designs.

They are also good people to deal with

Zech, what impression/personna are you doing? I portray a Scot out of Forts King George and Frederica during the same time period.

Like bmcret stated, alot depends on the intended use. I carry an English belt axe with a hammer poll for general camp use and a 3/4 axe for larger chores.

Zech

English farmer/militiaman. more for something to carry around and nothing for throwing, but not a pipe hawk. I like the hammer type hawks.

Take a look at the camp axes on the site above. They're basically hammer polled tomahawks and would serve double duty for camp axe and throwing hawk.

The belt axe I use is more like a small single bitted axe with a flat poll, with a fixed/wedged handle, just a little larger than a hatchet. I'll see if I can dig up an image of it tomorrow if you'd like.

You should be able to carry one of many types/styles that would have been in the area of Georgia and the costal regions of the south. There are specimens of European style axe that would have been traded prior to 1500 . Remember , an axe was a very desireble object to the local NAs and for the most part they took owning one as a status symbol Most of the early axe were without polls . It would be my opinion that the small axe shown in the add would be a very good choice.
