Be very careful of the stink gland . I heard alot of horror(funny) stories about skinning a skunk. Make sure you do this outside away from the house!!!!!!

This made me go looking for my copy of HANTA YO.
Although I did not locate the book I remember a passage that said of another tribe "They eat skunk, but they are otherwise good people." (The quote might not be precise since it is from memory.)
I think the tribe was the Comanche or Shawnee but I am not certain.

Hammerhead, I hope you aren't having to sleep in the barn after skinning that skunk. My father and his brother used to trap during the Great Depression and a skunk skin was money just like any other skin, but you had to know how to skin them to avoid the stink glands. a small slip could have undesirable consequences.

well i got one roaming around thats sleepin under my window at night so soon i shall call it a nuscence animal and i will trap it and get a good gas mask and clean it then soak it in kerosene

  Come on now, skunk ain't all that bad. Tastes like a house cat, gritty as beach sand. Leaves a nasty greasy coating in your mouth. Not my favorite meat but it'll keep you alive. On a scale of one to ten, I'd rate it a zero.

dont know if it`s true , but I`ve been told that the only critter that`ll eat a skunk is an owl , supposedly they dont have a sense of smell ! do know they can be hell on cats !
