Actually the burial at sea was to deprive his followers of a gathering point, a physical burial place that might in effect become a shrine. That I go along with. However, the fact he was chucked in to feed the sharks within 24 hours of his demise was to appease the religious sensibilities of the Muslim world, which places great stock in quick burial. While I am very likely much more sensitive toward the feelings of Muslims as a whole, than most on this board, in this case I would have stuck his head on a post till the birds, bugs, and elements reduced it to a skull, then pulverized that and scattered the dust and shards to the four winds. The rest of his miserable carcass I would have dumped in a pit full of pig offal, located so as to give whatever passes for wild dogs in that part of the world easy access to the buffet. His followers could track down and worship what the dogs expelled, if they were so inclined.

In addition to knowing that a higher level of vigilance will now be called for, I will admit to being not so much worried as disgusted in advance by the political capital that I know will be made of this accomplishment. That though is a topic not suitable for this forum, and I will say no more of it.

Gots to cheer our SEALs and the highly efficient manner in which they accomplished this scumbag's demise. Double-tapping his brains out the back of his skull was a wonderful demonstration of the adage that anyone worth shooting, is worth shooting twice. thmbsup

I think that is why they waited for the DNA results rather than announcing that "a person fitting the description of OBL was shot and killed", or "a person of interest with possible links to terrorists".  My question is to the Pakistan government, who I think had to know who was staying in a compound that had 18 inch thick concrete walls and barb wire in the top, guarded by hooded gunman.  It was also very near a hospital, so given OBL's kidney problems just why does a dialysis patient need a half dozen armed AK toting guards around him?  Who was paying his bills?  Who built the compound in the affluent Islamabad neighborhood?

There will be pictures of the body and possibly video as well that will filter out eventually, and hopefully it will be real but take it with a grain of salt.

In fact, here's the first video that I've seen regarding the compound where he was killed; http://news.yahoo.com/video/world-15749633/25090486
Now, this is from ABC news, which I don't trust to give us all the facts but this seems pretty straight forward with no commentary.  It also seems that the Pakistani military was not informed of the operation nor where they thanked after the raid.  It seems that there where a pretty large number of their military not far from the compound, so they will have a lot of explaining to do.  Whether or not the current administration presses them for answers remains to be seen.

I gotta say the boys did good. And to think our first mission was a complete foul up.

Call me suspicious,  This came right on the heals of another Presidential "I done good for you" moment...  I just think there are to many things not quite right about it...

The DNA results were not in when I heard about this yesterday morning - The Pakistani version of West Point was just down the road - and other things

Enough of my criticism...

Good job to the military members who were involved.  All of them deserve our praise for this mission, The Navy, The Air Force, The Army all were involved in one way or the other... It is just to bad that the Coast Guard was not involved also

Medusa only had one head with snakes for hair, I think you mean the Hydra.  I agree, we need to not pat ourselves on the back for too long, lest another head of the beast takes his place.

Good point William. Thanks for the correction. I really don't like making quotations that are not correct.

That's okay, I once dated a girl that said "I'm sure glad those Medusa's are extinct!" while we were watching "Clash of the Titans" with some friends.  No joke, I have witnesses!

I find it interesting that this occurred when BO is looking to garner more votes next election.  I, for one, do not trust the govt. to tell us the truth any more.  How do we know that this didn't happen five years ago and they are just telling us.  This jerk has been on the hit list for ten years.  And why are we honoring Muslim tradition about burial?  We are a Christian society!  Yes, good job Navy Seals!  But why not eliminate the jerk but not say anything, and let the truth come out twenty years from now when govt. documents become public information?  The entire free world is on high red alert in anticipation of some kind of retaliation.  The many headed villain is lurking in the bushes!!   Mii-gwetch,   Sinnanatha
