are there any good wool shirt patterns? any that don't have collars on them?

Leathermonger

Crazell, you can use ANY shirt pattern, just use wool for the material, are you thinking a blanket shirt weight wool? if you do, keep it simple!

okay i'll keep that in mind Leathermonger.. i'm going to use blanket weight for sure. it's mainly for when it's cold enough for my capote. i want to make it so i don't need to wear the capote. easy to move around in.. thmbsup

I would suggest that you don't go with such heavy weight material in favor of light to mid weight wool so that you can layer your clothing rather than making it all or nothing.  You could buy some patterns that might help you; http://www.longago.com/colonialmen.html
or if you're cheap but have a printer you can work with these- http://www.southernrangers.org/shirt.htm

If you have one of those hospital shirts you could use it as a template and just add long sleeves, plenty of options.

thanks William. i do wear layers. i have so much metal in me around my spine, it doesn't take long before my bones get cold. plus the blanket I'm using is one from the army surplus. it's grey with a white stripe. it's what is left from my Capote with big pockets that i posted before. but thanks for all your suggestions.. you are good people William. and the rest of you are good too!    thmbsup

Use google books
search for " shirt on the square pattern" search between the years 1820 and 1840

Man, I totally spaced out on this subject, I entirely forgot that I had this in my favorites links; http://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/how/historic-crafts-and-skills/sewing/drop-sleeve-shirt

With a little modification you can adapt this pattern to about anything you want.

Some great pattern sites, Wm. chrrs  Go to the mt man clothing and their suggestion for blanket shirt, can't get much simpler.  I'd fold blanket in half width wise or length wise depending how long wanted it. allow from shoulder to shoulder,  cut remaining off and make sleeves out of it, sew sleeves to shoulder seams, cut slit for neck and call it good for a simple easy overshirt.  Just a quick and simple shirt, not form fitting just warm,  if ya wanted to you could line the back with something for extra warmth for the spine, them bones do gets cold real fast.
