The elk did not cooperate, but I had good luck for the last several years and can't complain about my overall success.
I also got 2 deer this year and I will not go hungry.

I think the spread for the screw holes on the early sights was about 3/4" and later production was about 1 1/2"
It looks like your prototype is about right and all of my measurements may be off a little. My calipers are just the RCBS plastic ones and I did not take the sight base off the rifle, so even though I will give 3 digit measurements I can't guarantee them.

I could not measure the inside of the screw slot and the lip that the screw head bears on.

The rest of the measurements:
L 1.865
W .75
H .210 including lip tapering to .130
H at the ends of the sight without lip .05 with a groove about .01 deep and .20 wide running the length of the sight. I suppose this was to compensate for possible burrs on the screw holes.
Screw slots .50 long and .175 wide starting .10 from the ends of the sight.

The top flat that the dovetail is cut into is about .63 long and full width. The edges from there to the ends of the sight are beveled.

If I missed anything important let me know and I will try to take care of it.
The sight was just a square thing with a cutout and a deep slot so it could be filed down and it was ugly but functional and  WAAAAYY too high.

I hope this all helps.

Thank you sir. I will use this to adjust my model when I get back home tonight. I can see that I had a couple of them off a bit as my base width was .625 and my slot width was a little narrow as well.
That was great detail, thanks again  thmbsup

Happy to help.
As long as it fits and works it doesn't really matter whether some of the measurements are off, but I know that you are trying to make an exact copy, so this gets it pretty close.

So...did you come up with a prototype? Are you thinking of making a few??? Hint...nudge...wink/wink???? whipping

Blackfeet

Well, it looks like there is enough interest to make up a few. I will take a look at my stock situation and order the dovetail cutter.

That sight looks good...I  could also use one if you get the dovetail cutter and can turn them out without to much trouble..

Neat  little project you have going..

I am placing an order this week for stock and tooling for this project, finally. I am thinking a standard 3/8" dovetail that may require peening  for the smaller sights.
I was going to ask the board what finish should be applied or to be left in the white? Once up and making a few, I would make in choice of finish [hmm]

Sounds good Blackfeet. I'm needing to upgrade too!
