I lost my beloved grandmother this morning, at age 97.  She died peacefully in her sleep, having written the final chapter in her life with good deeds and caring.  She worked as a volunteer for various charitable societies into age 90, raising money to restore and rebuild, help and assist in so many ways.  She and numerous other volunteers would gather in the Fall and bake upwards of 2000 dozen cookies to raise money for college scholarships, although high school was as far as she went in her own education.  Some even called her "the cookie" lady, others would address her as "Mrs. Grandma".  She always had a meal or loaf of homemade bread for anyone who was hungry, or even looked hungry, along with a twenty dollar bill, which she thought could cure anything.  In the end she could no longer walk but her mind remained sharp and could remember even small details and dates about everyones life, including my own.

She leaves behind 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

William, my prayers go up for you and your family for the loss of your Grandmother.  Grandmothers can be special people in our lives and it sounds like yours was truly a special person. Cherish the memories you have with her and be thankful for the long time you had here on this earth together.  And take comfort in the fact that one day you'll be with her again.

I'd like to thank everyone who kept me in their thoughts and prayers as I transitioned through this period of life.  Today was the memorial for my grandmother,  and we had planned it this way to allow all my cousins to be able to come in from all across the country, which they did.  Neighbors, friends, relatives, they all packed into the chapel, so many that we had to add more folding chairs.  The reverend spoke of several favorite memories that the grandchildren had relayed to him, and even had some homemade cookies on the altar.  It was a beautiful last page to a long and productive life.  I hope each and every one of you reading this will be able to cherish someone as much as I did of her, and be loved as much as she did of me.
