sherpa

My nick name came from my friends picking on me. You see, I have a dismal track record for hunting elk. I always spend a min. of an entire week hiking up & down the mountains near the tree line (over 11,000ft here) chasing the elk in the early season but have been skunked for three years running. All my friends say that I look like a "backpack with legs" because I am short and stocky built. They were saying things like"you look like one of those short heavy dudes that carry all the equipment up Everest for mountain climbers" I said you mean Sherpas? And it has stuck ever since! It used to bug me but now I like it.

Ranger

Im surprised ol Dapper Don hasn't told his story yet... Well, since he hasn't gotten around to it, I'll go ahead and enlighten all of you.  strpot First a little background... Don is retired USAF and was good at his job. As you know some military folk take neat and orderly to a whole new level and Don just happens to be one of them. I don't believe that I have ever seen Don dirty! We have been cuttin and splitting wood all day and he looks as fresh as he started    ???  Don also carries this into his vous life as well. He has some very nice dandy clothes and a very neat and orderly camp. He dresses well for vous and his lace is always fresh!  hdslp He is not a dandy or a fop though. Just crisp. So us wiseasses in our Ranger group which Don is a part of as well have taken to calling him Dapper Don. Lately. however we have considered changing his moniker because of certain behavior...  strpot   Every afternoon. even at camp, ol Don cant be found for a few hours because he is TAKING A NAP!  ROFL Therefor we are considering changing his name to....... NAPPER Don!  ROFL ROFL ROFL

Micanopy

My nickname, or screen name, whichever ya wanta call it is Micanopy, prounounced "MicK An OH Pee" is used to honor an ancestor. Micanopy was a great leader of the Seminole and Mikasuki people in the 1800's. He was a man of great thought and wisdom and clearly saw that the future of his people was lost unless they could learn to live peacefully with the whites. However this would change and he became a figure of staunch resistance to further emmigration of whites into Florida. You can read more here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micanopy

Greyfox,
Likewise for me. As I've stated elsewhere, what ain't grey is bare. More bare every day.

Thanks for sharing- make it easier to relate to names,  get to wonder about some ?

William

My SASS alias is SFT, although I just use my real first name here on TMC. I took that nickname/alias to honor my late grandfather who was a member of the AVG/Flying Tigers (Sons of the Flying Tigers) but rather than go through the entire explanation I just say it stands for Santa Fey Trail where my cowboy persona was born.  Someday I hope to earn a proper nickname befitting my current experience.
