KHickman,  In reply to your question.  I used to hunt Davy Crockett many years ago.  The way things are now days, and the way Davy Crockett is broken up it's hard to say where you might hunt.  I would think some where in the Bug Slough area would be good.  Some fellows say between Ratcliff and Weches is good. I would think the forest would be very crowded the first couple of weeks.  Here's a map of the Davy Crockett that might be useful.  You might also just do a little browsing around in the National Forest website.  http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/texas/mvum/mvum_maps/davy09Esize.pdf

You might do better by checking out the Texas Parks and Wildlife Public Hunting and Access program.   http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/public/#aph

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Ironwood - thank you. any info is more than I have.  I guess I just took my home state of Washington for granted, knowing where 1 million acres of public land was within 90 miles of home in all different directions.
