Bulldog Lady, Take a look at Hamilton Dry Goods. http://www.hamiltondrygoods.com/sock.html
They have a great selection of socks. I use the cotton stripe or the wool, depending on the weather.
They're great people to deal with and their prices are very reasonable.

Rick Thanks  took a look- and the ones I'm knitting appear to be  lot heavier. these will be more like heavy wool hunting socks - not as heavy as those from Eddie Bauer or the ones used on the farm in winter  but think thicker than those shown,  already got them started so guess see how they turn out, haven't made a pair for lo on 20 years.  nothin else make good feet warmers when come in with cold feet!!    Thanks again for help Bulldog Lady

I like the heavy wool ones without the heal that come up over the calf (like a tube sock).

Reading about the 1770s and such, seems they save the deer hair when working hides and stuffed mocs with that in cold weather.  Guess you need to save the hair when you work over your hides.

Bulldog lady

Comon guys It's bad enough to have them in my freezer! Whole hides, and if wanted hair lordy mercy I got more's than a plenty- dog hair that is devel  Bullodog Lady

Well, if Jimmy doesn't want those handsome dark gray socks, I'll bet one of the other fellas might take them offa your hands.

I love what she does for me but have found I have foot problems when i wear anything other than white.  While in the military I had to wear a white sock under a dark sock to keep from having foot issues.

i told her thats what I would do with these socks when she finishes em...

Good save there, Jimmy!  And you'll have some mighty warm feet this winter.

Useta be ya wore cotton (white) inside yer wool (any other color). Cotton wicked away the damp, wool stays warm even when wet (damp with sweat).

USMC issue used to be OD green wool socks, supposed to keep your feet warm. All they ever did was make my feet ich like crazy till I learned to wear cotton socks under them.
