In case you ever get a ball stuck in your barrel that a jag won't remove, here's some tips on doing it safely;

A similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago when the cleaning jag came loose and was stuck tight with a patch around it.  Couldn't get it screwed back onto the rod and thought I'd have to remove the breech plug to get it all out.  While at the store I bought one of those CO2 dischargers and a patch puller.  As it happened the $2 patch worm got it all out and I returned the CO2 device, so when I came across this article I thought I'd post it for reference.

  Been doing auto mechanics work for over 20 years and know the grease guns do have alot of power to them as I have even split a tie rod end that was froze up with one. I never would have thought of this trick and am glad it was brought up. I like the idea of using this method and will start to keep a small one in my shooting gear for the just in case scenerio.  I like the idea of using the vegetable shortning as it is easy to clean up and is biodegradeable.

For that lost cleaning jag...
If you can't get the threaded end of the rod centered back up, try spooling up a spot towards the end of the rod with masking tape until it just fits down the bore.
