Hi everyone! I'm getting a new rifle next week in 40.cal , i was wondering if anyone here has some pet loads for 40.cal. My rifle is a tenn. mtn rifle, cherry stock 42 in rice barrel, l&r lock, just a plain southern mtn rifle, iron furniture. I'll send a picture when i get it. thanks slaphappy

In my little longrifle I use 35 grs. of 3f Goex with the .395 patched roundball for small game/50 yard target shooting.
For 100 yd. target shooting it was sighted in for 60 grs. of powder, but for deer I bumped it up it to 70 grs.  ;)

I have a 33" GM barreled .40cal Flintlock, and my normal load is:

40grns Goex 3F
.018" pillow ticking
Hornady .395

Extremely accurate rifle...set up a row of empty .12ga hulls at the range and enjoy !

Though my .40 is flint, the same rules apply.  I use a .390 ball (that's just my mould) and pillow ticking, about .018".  The best lube is what you find that works for you.  I currently use 40 grns Goex 3f.  I say "currently" because I'm still experimenting.  For power needs I use 65 grns.
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.
