I know axes have been around for many centuries
Any idea how long the two man crosscut saw has been in use felling timber?

Thanks Oldsalt!
That pretty much answers my question
They were here in the 1800's  dntn
And if they were here, blacksmiths had them or had access to them as a steel source

I'm sure a badly damaged saw would be salvaged into other smaller saws or blades

how much would an old metal crosscut bow saw be worth?

My Dad showed me how to use a two man crosscut saw.  I was maybe 8 years old.  It takes cooperation of the two men.  You don't push the saw. Each man has to pull the saw in turn.  You pull, he pulls, you pull, he pulls, you pull, he pulls.  Faster and faster as the two get into a rhythm.  That was really a thrill to try and pull that big ol' saw.  A bottle filled with turpentine and a wick of green pine needles, as a sprinkler spout, was used to "oil" the saw.

That would depend on where you find it, worth and cost are two different things. If you go to a antique shop an arm and leg, if an auction that depends
on how dumb the crowd is, estate or garage sales may be the best place to
look. A lot of the time being in the right place and time is the key.

have a few of them I got at local auctions and garage sales. Most are in good condition an1 or 2 are excelent. The costs of them around here run from $25-$75 depending on condition and where ya get em from. Most of mine were priced right for me so I got em. Might be willing to part with 1 or 2 sometime.

I got suckered into using one of those G-D Misery whips one time.  If someone threatened to give me one,  noway I'd likely beat  'im so bad his grandkids 'd be born wearing the bruises.fght
