Ran across an old post from God knows when and there was the "Rev's" recipe for Apple Pie in a jug. I mixed up a tame batch (I used Capt Morgan's spiced rum) and WOW!!!!!!!! No wonder it was a hit at the rondies he went to.

Rev's Apple Pie

1 Gallon Apple Cider (unfiltered)
1 Cup Cranberry juice
1 fifth (3 cups or 750ml) of Bacardi rum (I recommend the 151 type for a bit more "kick")
1 cinnamon stick

Put it all in a container and wait a couple of weeks ( longer is better but I didn't wait).
Happy pie drinking.

P.S. You don't have to be at a rondy to enjoy this libation.

Now that seems to be a perfect libation after a long day making smoke and thunder!

Hanshi and I thank you for posting the recipe!
I am the one your mom warned you about!

You're welcome. It was for Hanshi mostly to give him something to read for a change. Look for more cooking recipes later. It's bee season for me and my "girls" need some TLC after their winter. Look for some honey recipes in the July, August time frame. Provided I'm still alive and kicking.

Bees, huh? Now that the kids and the grandtwins have moved out, I have been itching to bring in bees again. Got the boxes, just have to get some bees. I used to maintain 2-3 hives. In the middle of hundreds of acres of obnoxious grapes doesn't support too many hives. I do miss them.

They are very incredible bugs. I can only marvel at their true democracy in action. We humans could use a lesson or two or three or four thousands millions from how they live. Last year I got 35 gallons of honey from 9 hives. Look for a mead recipe or two later. My oldest son put up several different flavors of mead and we are waiting patiently for them to mature. The sneak preview tastes shows the wait will be worth it.

I kept honeybees from the time I was about 14 until I left home. The biggest problem I had was that my mother and my little brother were both allergic to the stings so I had to be careful, but we all enjoyed the honey. I even worked for a commercial beekeeper for a while and I still enjoy seeing bees working.

I am gonna have to try that one ......thanks.

Thanks for the recipe!  While I generally prefer bourbon or rye I do like a good dark rum.  I've got a friend who produces mead every year and have, of course, sampled it.  But I don't have that much of a preference for mead.  Another friend makes gallons of beer constantly and I love some of his styles.

As a teen a friend and I robbed, or tried to, a wild bees nest.  It was in a huge tree and I'm not sure we got enough honey to make up for the stings we received.  ANother time I found a clump of bees hanging from a bush in the yard.  I cut the clump off and fixed up a "hive" in a big (as I recall) drum.  They were going good at first until ants destroyed the entire nest.  Never seen that happen before.  Can't remember if they were fire ants or what.  I never heard of fire ants doing that either.  I still have scars from fire ant stings.

Interesting read, guys.  I'll keep the recipe of course.

Hotfxr, what's wrong with grapes?

Grapes are self pollinating and give nothing to bees. No pollen, no nectar, too many chemicals, and bees will starve to death if a hive was set up in the middle of a large vineyard. And where I live, it's large vineyards as far as the eye can see. We have kept our yard as bee, butterfly, and bird friendly as we can.

If I were a bee I'd be furious!! strpot

Just opened a small jug of the apple pie and damned if it wasn't carbonated. Apple pie champagne for the lunch sipping! God is good.

As a teen I used to make a number of alcoholic beverages; beer, wine & (once) whiskey.  I discovered that even after the fermentation - hence, carbonation - is apparently finished, it slowly continues if one is not careful and bottles it too soon.

This after fermenting was a mystery as the main ferment was all done. BUT, I'm just as happy that I got what I got. It was very good as a lunch time sipper. Quite a change from the usual sweet tea.
