I'm sure this isn't news to you guys who subscribe to Backwoodsman but sadly Charlie Richie passed away recently. His son is taking over as boss and I hope he doesn't drift too far from his dad's vision. Lately I have found the issues a little boring. Same stuff covered over and over and fewer articles on black powder guns. Gonna give it awhile to see how junior does but if it doesn't get a bit more interesting I might let my subscription lapse.

I don't subscribe but have looked through a few of the issues.  I've been a subscriber to Muzzleloader Mag for years and years and that one, at least, keeps getting better.  I recommend it highly.

I get Muzzleloader too and enjoy it very much. My only gripe is its focus on high end custom rifles in flint. Now I am interested in flint guns but I am not going to spend 3k on one gun or waste my time with production flinters that are not reliable. Wish Muzzleloader would have more articles on percussion guns and inexpensive production rifles.

I agree!  They are super nice but not the sort of thing most of us could ever afford.  Other than a couple of (excellent) production caplocks, the rest I have are just middle level flinters.

Middle level,  That sounds about right for the average, old age shooter... My newest flinter is my most expensive (purchased while to ill to even hold up my lightest cap lock) cost me under the $1500 line.   Those $3000++ guns are awfully pretty, but don't shoot any better than one half their price.  JMHO

I'm with you on that.  Your most expensive one and my most expensive one seem to have cost about the same.  But that's fine with me.  They are very accurate (I ain't) look quite nice and are mine!  hntr

With gas going up to $4:25 gallon and diesel at $5:15 a gallon, I can't afford shipping on even the cheapest caplock out there.

Something's gotta give and I hope it isn't us!

William.  Fill up quick... gas here is pushing $5 and diesel $6.  Going up 10-20 cents a week.... Where will it top out.  Read that the 9/10''s at end may be dropped so they 4 digit price can go over 10.00.  Need to switch to price per liter like Au and UK so it doesn't look so bad... Fill up $100.00 not uncommon already.

We passed that mark weeks ago. Right now try $6.75 for gas and $7.50 for deisel. And I cannot get anyone to give me a straight answer as to why, since the US is a net petroleum exporter.  pnic

Don't know who this "Brandon" is that everybody's parroting, but we're still pumping as much oil as two years ago.  Inflation, yes, but look to the greed of the oil magnates.  They not only own Congress but also still get subsidies from them; that has to stop!  They all seem to be quadrillionaires anyway.  Nobody and I mean NOBODY gives a hoot about the poor tax slaves (us).

[/quote] we are`nt pumping near the oil we were , most of it is coming from the middle east , since half of our wells were shut down , and a moratorium placed on new drilling !
