Went to the range with a good friend, Dave Gross, who has built some fantastic guns over the years.  I took my favorite .45 a L. Lancaster style flintlock that's been my go-to for a couple of decades.  It took a few shots but the session ended with some of the best 50 yd. groups I've accomplished in a long while.  I may be getting some of my mojo back for sure.  I also learned the .40 barrel is pitted just enough to no longer print one hole groups at 25 yds and 3.75" at 100 yds.  The decision to have Bobby Hoyt re-bore it to .45 is the way to go.

The eyes are still not good but the surgery on my dominant eye improved vision enough where the front sight doesn't completely disappear.  So I now have a "fair" supply of flints and powder and not yet desperate for lead which makes me feel more secure.  chrrs

Tommy, if you need lead, I can send you a chunk of overspill that I collected over time from casting. It is >6 lbs, possibly as much as 6.5 lbs. I will send it in a small flat rate box if you want to pay shipping. PM me with your new address if you want this lead. It costs $8.45 for the shipping so you may find lead cheaper locally.

Patocazador, that is very kind of you to offer the lead and I just may take you up on it soon.  So if you could give me a "rain check" on it that would be appreciated.  Before we moved I had 150 lbs plus of the old style WWs, and at least 300 to 400 lbs of soft lead.  It broke my heart when my wife sold it all but it would have been totally impractical to try and bring it up with us.  I did squirrel away, just guessing, 75 + or - lbs in the car.  I likely have enough to cast up from "maybe" 10,000 (.32) to 1500 (.62) which would require that I order more powder anyhow.  Lets see, I have about 9 lbs of powder stocked up which will get me through a fair amount of shooting.  But I'll be needing to replenish both at some point.  Thanks again, your offer will be a sort of "emergency" plan.

Lots of us probably have a little lead squirreled away.  Old Sheet lead in 2 rolls I can no longer pick up.  +a few hundred ingots cast of it. Those One price boxes are surely the way to go with lead.

I've likely got less than I think squirreled away.  My "guess" was truly a wild guess.  No more than I shoot these days my little pile should last a while though maybe not long term.  I really hate losing my huge supply in this last move.  I have  tons of shooting stuff but it's being held back in Va. and I have no way of gaining access to it at this time.  But I can breathe a little easier now than just a few weeks ago.  Got a bit of powder now and however much lead is on a shelf in the basement.  Already had a reasonable supply of flints & caps.  One thing I'll never be able to have again is my supply of old WW.  Must have had 150 lbs and likely even more than that before we moved.  Also had around 50 + lbs of reclaimed lead from various ranges.  But I don't cast bullets any longer - with the exception of lead ball and had to leave 1,000s already cast behind.  Oh, well, sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug.  srndr

If you just didn't have room for your cast balls, you could have just pored them into you fuel tank.  That's a spare space you weren't packing with much else.. Just need to stop for gas a little more often until you recover them...(leaded gas was always OK).
