Want to buy a lite weight riffle for my wife. Looking for something like a Crockett. Not interested in a flintlock or expensive custom, Don't know well she will take to this sport. Maybe something up to 45 caliber,,like Senaca. Shorthanded

The Crockett is a great choice.  Used ones come up for sale from time to time as do a couple of other makes.  Mine's long gone.  Keep checking the classifieds & for sale threads.

The Crockett is a great choice and one that I bought for my fiance because she was afraid of guns in general and even with a max load, the Crockett just doesn't have any appreciable kick to it.  In fact, Noelle said immediately after pulling the trigger for the first time; "that was it?!??"  She no longer fears guns and now at least knows the basic gun safety procedures.  Anyway, finding a Crockett rifle at a decent price may be a tall order though, as a lot of folks want to charge a premium for a production rifle that is "rare" and no longer made; which is bullchit!  Even though they are no longer made, thousands were produced before production shut down.  They are good looking little rifles, don't get me wrong.  There is no way I would pay $450+ for a used Crockett nor for a new one.
Now, look for places that have NOS guns; stands for New Old Stock. Believe it or not, sometimes gun shops get a bunch of guns that either don't sell well or over time, just drop off the inventory list until many years later, someone spots a dozen boxes pushed into the corner of the warehouse that contain brand new guns that were produced decades earlier.  That's how I found and bought my Crockett rifle, brand new and still in the box, for $350 plus shipping.  It was made in the late 90's and is still pristine.  It can be done, it just might take you a while.

William, I had no idea the Crockett was out of production!  It was one of the finest rifles ever produced by Traditions and I hunted with mine for years.  The accuracy of mine was sensational and I still miss it.  Noticeable, also, is that the recoil is much like a pellet rifle; barely perceptable, in other words.  I do have a nice SMR flintlock .32, but it is no more accurate than was the little Crockett.
The Crockett and the flintlock.

was just on the traditions web site , the have a crockett rifle kit , but I`d rather be beaten than pay what they`re  asking ! $479.00 seems a wee bit high !

beowulf

they have the finished rifle listed at $543.00

Hanshi

I'd like a kit but not at that price.  Course, it depends on how much one needs it.  I vote to wait and deals will come up eventually.

You might keep an eye out for a CVA or Traditions Kentucky 45.  They can be found under 200.00 that have never been shot.

I don't like the two piece stock, I missed a Crockett Monday.

Now, the Crockett is a reliable keeper that can be passed down through generations.  I think they might also have another .32 built similar to the DeerHunter, or at least maybe one of the other importers has.

Traditions Frontier is also a good shooting smaller half stock rifle. Actually the first rifle I bought after joining up here was a Frontier. Of course it was advertised as a Hawken and by the time paid too much for it and had it shipped from Baltimore, I decided to keep it. It was in horrible shape and became my first project rifle. Turned out great and I wound up giving it to Mountain Mike right before he passed. In the short time he had it, he did love it.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Man, that is sticker shock right there.  I thought they had ceased production of this rifle but maybe they started up again?
