I took advantage of a recent facebook deal, Asmith at a historic farm in ohio was selling a  unch of fowlers he had in the white for a very reasonable price, less than the India guns. It was shipped to my friends house because he has a workshop and I do not. Does anyone know of a good book of Hudson Valley fowlers to reference ? I would like to equip it with proper accoutrements some of which I can do here, I have to wait for this quarrentine to be over to get to work on the gun itself.

Papa

Grinslde's book on American Fowlers.

Rocklock

Is that a single barrel or SxS?  Kinda curious as a SxS would also be useable on fowl.

beowulf

how did he offer guns on facebook ? it`s totally banned and can get you barred !

markinmi

I caught him just right I guess pm ed him and got a deal55 inch barrel 60 cal hudson valley fowler with brass lock plate, mailed it to my friends house so I havnt seen it yet, I dont have anywhere at home to work on it, gotta wait till I can go over after the plague

Hanshi

Okay, this sounds interesting.  And I know you'll post photos when practical.  thmbsup
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

Cant wait, my buddy ( who I had the gun deliverd too) says it real pretty grain, gonna need some tuning and frizzen hardening. I saw a slick
clip on rear sight I want to make for it, so I can take it off for trade gun matches. Working on a pouch and other accoutrements too, thats half the fun of a new gun.

markinmi

Are there any examples of the hudson valley fowlers having a steel rammer?

markinmi

Well I decided Im going to take a foot off the barrel, it will still have about a 42 in barrel, that monster is heavy!

beowulf

looking forward to seeing the finished product !
