Just one of the things that come with old age.

Theoretically we get wiser with age.  This applies more for some of us than for others it appears.  Reduction in eyesight is one of the aggravating things that gets us all if we live long enough.  Mine has declined to the point where I have succumbed and replaced the front sight on my TC Hawken with a fiber optic sight.  It will be interesting to see if this makes a difference in my shooting precision.  Hopefully I have made a wise choice. [hmm]

It will help, how much depends on what is wrong.
As for myself I just try to use the right part of the fuzzy things that used to be called sights.

I can see the front sight , the rear sight is a whole other matter ! so , I slightly enlarged the notch in the rear sight , it helps , but I`m thinking its time to get a new set of glasses , been wearing the same ones since 2001 !

Mine are at the point where something has to be done.  I may go back to wearing glasses but that won't help with shooting.  Maybe an express or peep is in my near future.

I installed a homemade peep on my .45 flinter. It really helps if there is good light but the darn deer all seem to come out at 20 minutes after sunset. By then I can't even see my feet.

Just a thought here, we read about the Old timers still out hunting in their 60's and 70's during the 17-1800's but they are the famous people - the ones who had excellent eyesight all their lives... could it be that the regular souls like you and I, (Yeah I know there is nothing regular about any of us who delve into the black arts), faded away because we could no longer hunt and had to rely on our kin and neighbors to hunt for us?

Also what are the repercussions for putting these fancy new sights on our sidelocks?  Do we get slammed and tossed out of Rendezvous because we broke tradition out of necessity or do the organizers now make allowances?  I have not been to a juried event  in several years so am asking to enrich the knowledge pool here.

I had an eye appointment yesterday.  No significant change, but...  At one point he put an "H" on the mirror while I was looking through the, well, gizmo.  When I viewed it with my left eye it was very clear.  Then he switched to my right (dominant) eye and when I looked straight at the "H", it simply disappeared.  That is my shooting problem.  If I focus on the front sight, as one is required to do, the same thing happens.  He referred me to an eye surgeon for a consultation.  Now, this is risky surgery and I've had more than my share of surgeries.  I DON'T like anything even remotely related to surgery.  Unless I get a very strong recommendation from him/her that it's to my benefit to have it, I'll pass!  This is RETINAL surgery, in case I wasn't clear.

Cranbrook

I have those days where my eyes give me "double vision" along with some blurring.  Not everyday but out of a given week those days seem to be increasing.

I will not hunt on the bad days but have been known to do some target practice.  I actually figured out that when shooting at my target and seeing two front sights, I just take the shot from the middle space between the two sights!    [hmm]

I may never win any awards for my expert marksmanship but I do manage to keep them holes in the black much of the time!

Hanshi

Cranbrook, When I shoot at a target I just tell those who comment that "I shoot at alternate targets".  ;D

Intrepid Potentate, could the gun in question look something like this?  Got to admit it is a little heart breaking when I look at the photos.  But I'm a broken man; financially, morally, physically, spiritually and mentally.  But, other than that it's all fine.  [hmm]
