Failing eye sight

My eyes just aren't what they used to be. Shooting my Renegade past 50 yards, especially in the waiting light, is not an option. It is an adjustable rear and front blade. Would peep sites be better? Any other options out there? Thanks!

Peep sights would indeed be better.  My dominant eye has retinal damage and keeps me from being the shot I used to be.  I like staying with the primitive open sights even though it's a challenge for me.  Wearing low power readers help me see the front sight.

My eyesight gets worse by the day. Like Hanshi does, I started wearing readers as hunting glasses a while back and it has made a big difference. I have a couple of non black powder rifles with peep sights and they are easier to aim by far.

for those who subscribe to muzzleloader magazine , there is a photo of a sight designed specifically for those with vision problems , on pages 64 and 65 of the july /august 2018 issue ! thinking of making one myself ! check it out it`s on the flintlock with the patch box ! it`s a small ghost ring type rear sight ! simple enough design that anyone should be able to copy it !

After finding that readers worked for shooting I stopped shooting the way I had been shooting for years.  I used to wear a blindfold and aim by sense of smell; uh, not MY smell, mind you.  Ahem!

A bit of electrical tape with a clean hole (made with a leather punch) punched in the middle can be stuck onto a pair of glasses and moved if necessary and it works like a peep sight.

You might want to check the RMC/OxYoke website. They have a rear sight that is basically a peep sight  that has a notch in the top so that it qualifies to use in PA's Primitive flint lock season which requires open sights. It comes as a set w/ a fiber optic front sight or either can be bought separately. This is the Rmc/OxYoke site for Bellefonte, PA. Not as cheap as the piece of tape but it doesn't black any of your vison.  BTW, a piece of painters tape over both lenses with a small hole punched in ea. pc. of tape makes emergency sun glasses for snow glare.

   Yep Peep sights really work good....I have one on my Sharps rifle....Puttin em in a pieplate at 500 yards....

When my father's eyesight was failing someone handed him a rifle with fiber optic sights and he looked at it, sighted down it and said "Hey, I can SEE that!"

You might try a peep in the rear and fiber front.

    It was a BIG A&* pieplate,,,,LOL....Seriously next time ill post pics,,,,   It took me a year of loading and testing to be able to go it....

Thanks people! Just ordered a peep site from Skinner Sites in Montana. They have one for my Renegade that screws right into the holes of the rear site. I'll need to take it to the range, as I may need a new front blade site. I wanted to keep my Renegade open sites. I'll keep you posted how it shoots!

If you are putting a peep into the rear sight holes it's going to be to far forward to do much good. They need to be at the tang area.
