I just got done burying my best friend this morning.  The vet had told us our Dalmanation  had a brain tumor 3 months ago.  Her health continued to go down hill. Over the weekend she could hardly go out to use the bathroom even with me practically carrying her back end. Then yesterday she would fall and just lay there like she had given up.  After a few minutes she would finally get up.  Last night she started having seizers and whining .  After a sleepless night she wasn't any better this morning.  I couldn't stand to see her suffer anymore , we took her to the vet and had her put to sleep. She passed like my Raven did her head in my lap telling her how much I loved her.  I knew this day was coming for 3 months but that didn't make it an easier.  She was probably the most loyal dog I have ever owned .  The person that dumped her out will never know what a wonderful loving dog they missed.  It hit me coming home from the vet this is the first time in 60 years I haven't had a dog. Right now I don't think I can get another one any time soon.  Here is a picture of my two best friends!!

I hurt right along with you. It's been ten years since I had to put down my best friend and I still get teary eyed over him today. I miss that dog more than any human I have lost in my 60 years. He was only 8 when he got cushings disease. Still have dogs, cannot imagine a life without my canine friends. My prayers and thoughts are with you brother. I truly believe that if there are not dogs up there, then there is no heaven.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

I'm so sorry to hear this.  Lately I've had to suffer through similar events and it's always emotionally terrible.  My condolences, comfort and prayers during this time for you.

I'm very sorry for your lose. My wife and I are Have had 3 dogs since we got married and the first 2 died in my arms at the vets, one from a tumor on the pancreas, and the 2nd from a tumor that was pushing her organs up to her lungs so that she quit breathing when put on her side to get X-rays. Our present beagle has an inoperable bladder tumor but as long as she seems to be content w/life, we'll keep her. Once she loses her quality of life, I'll be holding another one.

I'm so sorry for your loss, redhawk.  For dog lovers losing a dog is about the same as losing a child.  That's what dogs are; children.  We've lost several over the years.  That long, last goodby at the vet's is painful beyond words.  The love never dies with the dog but stays with you permanently.  Sitting on the floor balling my eyes out with my baby's head in my lap is excruciating.  Mine always went away in a cloud of love with me holding onto them.  I feel your loss, redhawk.
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.
