Small parts

So this afternoon I had my Traditions Crockett lock apart to smooth it out some.  I dropped the fly without knowing it onto a dirty concrete garage floor.  I realized it was missing when I went to put it back together.  That thing  is mighty small, black, and real thin.  I looked for quite a while, took a break and then looked some more.  I didn't think I could make one and I'm not sure how it would work out with it missing.  Looked some more and found a black speck under the bench.  Then I dropped the sear spring screw but that didn't take too long to find.  It's back together now and functioning fine.  Anyone want me to work on their guns?

When working on locks and other things with small pieces I always do it it over my lap, after I put a towel there. Catches a lot of otherwise lost pieces. I also keep a strong magnet on a string next to the bench for when I miss the towel.

I did the same thing back in the late 80's on a dirt floor, never did find it. Luckily I knew of a black powder shop about 50 mi. away. The next time I was in the area, we go down about 2-3 times a mo., I went to his shop and found out he had one of the CVA small parts displays. Come to find out CVA made 2 styles of flies so I got one of ea. and tried them out when I got home and the next time I was down, I replaced the one I used. I now have a parts box for CVA/Traditions. A company called Deer Creek has many parts for CVA/Traditions guns , so if you need something, or would like some spares, you might want to check their web site.

I used to fly radio control airplanes.  A lot of the bigger 2-stroke gasoline engines run with a Walbro carbuerator (SP?).  There's a couple little tiny springs inside that need to be cleaned and even adjusted sometimes.  I only had one go flying across the shop before I learned to put all carbs inside a plastic bag for disassembly.  Use a gallon ziploc bag -- put the carb inside -- work through the opening -- KNOW where the springs are and AIM the carb body into the corner of the bag before releasing the springs or screws that hold them. 

I lost a rear sight mounting screw for a TC Patriot pistol.  No idea where to get one.

Chris, IF that sight mounting screw is the same as used on a TC Hawken, it can be had from the Gun Works in Oregon.

I am plagerid......, plagerheis.....,, placermini....., I am taking that zip-lock bag idea and using it from now on. Just got through buying a couple of new springs and a spring base that shot through the air, never to be found again. Thank you for the common sense and artful method of not losing small parts.
