my striker that I forged today.

had some free time today and took out the forge and made a small striker. Never did this before definitely takes practice. here's a pic.  this includes making it and trying to get a spark.

Looks Good Frontierman01  thmbsup thmbsup  They are Tricky things sometimes [hmm] the best one I ever had Sparked Great!!  thmbsup  But then I let it slip out of my hand and it hit the ground hdslp and broke into 3 pieces :'(  I have a couple of good ones now,.. but not quite as Sparky pnic  But they do not brake into pieces if I drop them either.... thmbsup

yes I did. but it wasn't consistent. I need more practice, or a better piece of flint. the flint that I had wasn't very sharp. Thanks

went hunting today. wasn't successful. on the way back did a little stone collection. got home and used it on my striker and it produced sparks a lot better than the flint I had. only question that I have is that I have no idea what type of stone it is. here's a pic. to see if anyone can identify it.

They don't look like the Chirt we have around here that most people call flint.  What you have looks to me like some type of Marble but if it is giving you good sparks then I would just put it in your fire making kit and go with it.  The only problem that might come up is putting another edge on it once what you are using wears down. FYI; there are a few companies that make all sorts of tools as well as collect and resell flint nodules and spalls (chips and such) in case you want to see what kind of sparks that flint makes.
