July shoot is starting

Same three stages to begin. Offhand and pistol at 25 yds and 50 yard bench. Keep in mind that the scoring is from the center of the hole due to the many calibers in play.

I will dig around for a novelty target or two.

Shot the postal bench match today. Probably won't have much time to shoot it again. Thought I had the X anchored and it moved on me for my last shot.

I got the rifle and bench targets shot, neither is anything to brag about since I can't actually SEE the sights and my first shot on the bench target was also my sighter to tell me where to point the thing .
If I get time I will go back to the range and shoot the pistol and reshoot the bench target now that I know where to point the rifle.

Typically the first shot is not a good indicator. My first shot is for fouling and I usually dump it into the backstop. I shoot a three shot group after the fouler to determine where the subsequent shots "might" go.

I didn't need a fouler because I had already shot at 25 yds, but hadn't shot this rifle for a while and didn't know where it would hit at 50.
You are correct that the first shot from a clean barrel will not hit in the same place as the subsequent shots, but that had already been dealt with.

I will have to wait - on this one Temps here are 107 at 1pm and drop to 98 at 11 pm with 50+ % humidity...

I heard it was warm down here in the lower 48 the last week. It didn't get above 60 up in the last frontier, the last frontier where I wasn't allowed to bring any of my BP implements into the only state without any real gun control laws. Now back down here I see all the ranges are again closed to black powder for fire danger. Ahh, my kingdom for a Girandoni Air Rifle.

I decided to give the postal shoot a try with my .45 Patriot pistol. However, after 5 shots offhand with no rest, only 3 were in the black. Old eyes and unsteady arms produced a target suitable only for starting a fire .. so that's what I did.

I might give the bench rifle a try but my confidence is lacking so I will probably be a "no shoot" for this month.

I will be emailing some terrible targets tomorrow. I tried to use one of my pistols, but went back to my revolver because the pistol wasn't putting the bullet on the target. The revolver didn't do as well as normal because I can no longer get the good quality wads I used to use and haven't made any of my special lube for a while either.

Maybe my eyes are just getting old like the rest of me.
