Gents,

Looking for both a good quality/field ready powder horn and a primer horn.

I've looked at the ones on ToTW... Any comments on their quality? I did not notice any horn measures included.

Otherwise, any suggestions on where to look?

Thanks and keep your powder dry.

A fellow who goes by the name of "Horner" makes some nice ones .. but they aren't cheap. I think he's on this forum occasionally.

Powder Horns and More has a good selection most of the time, including kits. Then there's Austin Walker horns that are sold mostly on EBay. I've got a horn from each and they are still with me.

I had one given to me, bought two off eBay (had to fix one of them), and made two out of horns that I scrounged up. Of all of them, the two I made work the best. Anyone who can reconfigure innocuous items like you have done should have no problem making a fantastic horn.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Stumblin Wolfe aka Matt Blossier made the horn for Patience my Early Lancaster TVM rifle.  but with that being said there are several horners out there it all depends on your pocket lining.... Do you know what your looking for in a horn?

October Country has good horns as does Austin Walker horns. I have both.

Hey Badger. I'm looking for a circa 1750s-1760s good quality horn. Large in length. Not interested in scrim, but character. I can do some carving to make it my own I guess, as well as configure a horn measure.

I found a Rev war type at Friendship in the spring. Engrailed, beautiful twist and very well constructed (air tight) for $55. I almost fell to my knees and gave thanks (after making the deal)! Deals are out there. Look for a tapered pour spout/peg and blow into the pour spout and listen/feel for air escaping around the butt! My .02$ worth!

I would be looking at Tim Crosby's horns. He usually has a good selection available or will make what you want. He's not inexpensive but his quality is first rate.

I built a kit horn, and love it, and I bought one ready to go that's a great horn, paid $25.00 for it to. I'd get one of the brass powder measurers, then get a deer or elk horn tip and drill it out and measure powder into it and drill more out if need be, or you can mix some epoxy and fill in til you get the amount you want. drill a hole in it below where the powder is and ad a leather thong to it, and you're set. I've done a couple that way and love mine. hi:

Archie,
I have a screw tip that I made that's available and may have a primer, will have to look.
The screw tip is at $125 + shipping and the primer I will have to see what I have. If you're interested I can send some pics.

You also might want to check out the horners websites there are a few of them - especially if you are thinking about doing your own work... just search powder horn websites
