29 June 2015 - I received my Bossloper card #2085 - I am now a member of the American Mountain Men having completed 10 requirements during my probationary pilgrim

My persona remains one of a trapper on the Upper Missouri during the time frame 1810-20 prowling along the Grand River, Missouri, Yellowstone and Moreau and Belle Fouche rivers - during the last year I have completed a brain tanned riflemans frock acquired a 1792 Contract rifle as well as a JJ Henry English Pattern (much later than 1820 period) and I have made my own bag, buffalo horn and working on trousers - I have taught others some brain tanning techniques and I truly appreciate the fellowship.

I am truly blessed to be in such a fine organization - in the past year I have trapped, beaver, raccoon, possum, and killed deer from a primitive camp - it is awesome to be in the USA to do all these things. Made my own saddle for treks on horseback

Nice rig.   I picked up an 1900 style  McClellan saddle to cover with leather to "look like an old saddle"  But my faithful steed bolted through the fence during a very nasty thunder storm and got so many wire cuts, she had to be put down. Kind of lost interest after that.   Planning to ease my way into retirement over the next two years and want to see a few places before settling in.  Then another horse is on the list.

Hunters here in the east (mid atlantic), generally frown on use of horses for hunting.  My gear may have to be all florescent orange just to keep some near sighted idiot from shooting my mount.

Just saw this post and I have to say, congratulations. You have obviously put in more work than the average shooter is even capable of (including me). Fine looking gear and not a bad looking horse either. Keep us posted on your adventures and post pictures often, we love them.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Congrats again, on this achievement!

For those who do not know the American Mountain Man Association is the end or the trail or the pinnacle of our hobby.  You are as close as one can be to the mountain men of the 1800's when you achieve your bossloper card.   It is not an easy trek but is very rewarding.  I walked the path for a year and was then politely informed by my doctor to step away if I wanted to stay on this side of the grass.

My Hat is off t Dan for what he has accomplished - most of which you can read about in this forum....
