A customer brought this painting in . Her house keeper brought her cat to work and the cat went ballistic in the house and knocked this painting off the wall. The painting is French dated 1811
I love this kind of work. Just about done with this. I had to remove the strip repair to the tares fearing they would not hold under the re stretching on to the frame. I remounted the painting on a new canvas backing and got 100% adhesion on a heavy weight canvas. Then the cleaning process of the painting to remove all the air and smoke dirt Then started the touch up process. Filling the cracks with a pumas (rotten stone) and gesso or whiting mixture. Sanding the surface smooth the laying glaze coats to get the artist Coloring as close as I can. I have about an hr left for glaze coats to go. 4 or 5 more tones. Then the re stretching on the frame

That's an amazing talent. How much more are you going to do with this Dave?

William

That is amazing! I can detect a very small part of the tear in the tree but that's it, you did a great job. Get that painting appraised asap. My friend has some paintings that came from his great grandmother's estate that where French. They knew they were worth some money but not exactly how much. One of his cousins wanted all the paintings for free and my friend, who was the executor, said no but will let you have them for $2000, which his cousin refused saying that was too much. They took one of the 5 paintings to be appraised and they (Southerbies) immediately offered $80,000. Needless to say, his cousin walked away with nothing but a few trinkets from the estate that had been promised to her.

I'd say it's time for a cat funeral.  hntr

Beautiful job of repairing it. I would've thought it was a total loss.

Thanks Everyone. The customer picked up the painting while I was on my cross country bike raide. Jarrod my son said she had a lot of tears in her eyes. I love to hear that.

William

I love hearing that too, thanks for sharing your uplifting experience.
