Hi all, I just purchased a nice pair of Carl Dyers Rondevous Moccosin.. thier second hand but they are NICE and nearly perfect. I also got all the paperwork with them from when they were purchased new...anyhow I was thinking of selling them/trading them for a nice pair of Center seam Moccs..or whatever would have fit the Eastern woodland Native....or 1770's time period for a scout or longhunter..can any one suggest a good maker? Im not really particular if they are factory made made or tailor made.
The Dyers are comfy Im a size 9 and 1/2 and I have lots of room for wool socks if needed while wearing them. I guess they're a size 10.
Thanks!

Carey,
While they may not be PC for your personna, you've got the best that tere is. You might check with Tandys leather supply, they may have a pattern. I know they are not difficult to make.

Center seams aren't hard to make, but they are THE hardest to make a pattern that will fit RIGHT.

Papa,
I am quite possibly the worst at sewing that a person could be!..ask woody.. he'll tell ya!.. I think what I need is a pair of lightweight leather  center seams with a nice hard sole..with a spongey insole..that would for sure do the trick.. looking H/C but feeling modern.

(susp)...I tinker with a lot of things, but this is one thing I haven't tackled yet. If I can come up with enough leather maybe I can try to make us both a pair?? hdslp

Sounds like you have struck a good deal. Make them a little large and put insoles into them.

OR if  I can get someone to make me up a  pair of center seams with an outer sole and an insole...I'll give them the size 9 1/2 to 10 Carl Dyers with all the paperwork and carls signature to boot.

Both Dyer and Arrow Moccasins make centerseams. I own a pair of the Dyer's in a size 10, narrow foot, but they're not nohow no way never up for grabs.

The Dyer's and the Arrow each have a flaw or two about them, depending on your point of view and the use you expect to put them to. The Dyer's are pricey, and due to being sewn with synthetic (nylon or some derivative) thread they aren't welcome with open arms at stricter/juried events. Even at more laid-back events there's liable to be That Guy who has to sneer, and speaking from personal experience it becomes hard to hide the bodies and keep a low, unsuspected profile when it seems like at every event I ever attended at least one snob unexpectedly "left the event early" and was never seen again....

The Arrows are also (I think) sewn with synthetic thread. They're significantly cheaper to buy than Dyer's. The payoff for the savings is you get a pair of mocs that, if you read descriptions of the original footwear, are probably closer to PC in how they wear on your feet, than Dyer's are. What I mean is, mocs in at least one famous line of primary documentation are referred to as "a decent way of going barefoot" and if they get wet or you traipse over rough turf, that's exactly what you get with a pair of Arrows. This, again, is based on my personal experience of having owned a pair, rather than hearsay.

The Dyer's product will hold its shape and last a long, long time, while the Arrows are less expensive (and you get what you pay for). Neither is a strictly PC product. As for mocs by any of the smaller custom makers, that I can't address, never having owned any such footwear.

I actually think that the Dyers I have are for a really FAT foot...9 1/2 to a 10 WIDE... so.... MIKE..I will take those narrow Dyers off your hands Kind sir and replace them with a WIDE set.. :mini-devil-28492:
