"Using Photobucket or a similar picture-hosting site is the easiest way of posting pictures here. If there's a way of transferring a picture from my Windows Photo Gallery (where everything goes from the camera) directly to here, I have no idea what it is."

Yes the point made by Grey Fox was in reference to the picture size.  But as you can see from the quote I posted from Mongrel I was addressing his statement of

"a way of transferring a picture from my Windows Photo Gallery (where everything goes from the camera) directly to here"

And while resizing may be a concern for him he didn't mention the picture size issue in his statement.

"OK - I have tried Numerous times to post this picture and I keep getting this message:

An Error Has Occurred!
Your file is too large. The maximum attachment size allowed is 1024 KB.

Does Anyone know how to change the file so that it can be posted? Thanks Tim"

I beg to differ...

Misunderstanding and miscommunication, here....

Grey Fox mentioned the picture size being a problem, I didn't. MedSol was addressing my statement that posting a picture directly from Windows was something I hadn't figured out. I should have mentioned that I run into the same issue Grey Fox did, which is that my pictures as they post into Windows Photo Gallery are too large for a direct transfer. I gave the impression that I simply don't know how to upload a picture, which isn't the case, when actually all I was doing was getting the point across to Grey Fox that the use of a "middleman" site like PhotoBucket is necessary to get pictures from the camera to here -- the same point Rev was making, but I did a poor job of wording my agreement.

Grey Fox -- Tim -- and anyone else having difficulty with photo posting -- in the category "Technical Help" the very first Sticky'ed post concerns posting photos, using PhotoBucket specifically. A few minutes spent studying that might be helpful.

Mongrel,

This a way to resize in Windows Live Photo Gallery. At least using Photo Gallery 2011.  Other versions may of course be different. It is certainly not an automatic thing as each picture will have of to be resized and of course the resized picture will then need to be used for the upload to the site.

Open Photo Gallery.

Select and open a file on the left.

Select a picture and double click to open.

Click on Properties in the Organize area (the little box under the flag, under the star - best way I can describe it).

Click on resize.

Select a size on the drop down menu under select a size.

Click Resize & Save.

An option to open and start Photo gallery is to Double Click on a picture in Windows Explorer and it should open up a Photo Gallery viewer with that picture.

In the viewer Click on Edit, Organize or Share

It will open Photo Gallery and show the pictures in the file that has the picture you opened and go from there as listed above.

When the picture you have resized is saved it will be listed with the same name with the size added.

The two pictures attached were resized from a picture that was originally 2.42 MB in size.  The 640 x 480 is now 300 kb and the 800 x 600 is 495 kb.

With your use of photobucket you may not really need to do it this way for this site but it might be helpful to you, Grey Fox, and others (that have Windows Photo Gallery) who want to resize pictures for other reasons or find it more convenient than using photobucket or those who prefer not to have to use photobucket such as myself.
