Powder weight

From what I can remember from eons ago when I actually did some reloading, I always weighed out the powder charge. Now with BP, I am using a measure to get the correct grain load. Well being me, I decided to weigh out my measured load. Staying with simple numbers, 100 grains of Goex3f weighs 74 grains. I did this several times and it did vary by a grain or two but I settled on 74. My question, is this right or do I just have a funky powder measure?I ordered another measure but it won't be here for a week or so and I am planning on sighting in one of my rifles this week and would like to be keeping an accurate shooting chart.

I tried the same thing several years ago and found the weights to be very close with 3f and a little lighter with 2f, but not very much.
I guess that is one good reason to try to stay with the same powder measure when you have found a good load or else weigh your load to be sure you can duplicate it if you lose the measure you normally use.

Black powder, and the various imitations, are always measured by volume not weight.

For my BPCR loads I always weigh the charges for target work. That is after finding the one that works best. It might not matter a bit but my OCD brain tells me it does. What? No be quiet I'm talking now.
Sorry for the interruption there. Yes BP is measured by volume but getting a consistent amount of propellant for best accuracy seems to require weighing. At least from my rifle with a 520 grain bullet at 500 yards.
To my mind that consistency would pay off in muzzle loading if exceptional accuracy were called for.

Now I really know that this forum is a second family, 'cuz it be just like my house.    I was not trying to start a debate or even a discussion. What I was asking in my verbose, meandering way was if my powder measure was accurate or not. It was not.    I acquired a couple more, and they are more accurate.    That'll teach me to buy a powder measure from "Bob's discount dentistry, hair care and tire center" out on the highway.

Perhaps, but Bob has a REALLY good deal on used nails right now!

I have two adjustable measures and they are nowhere close.  when I find a good load I weigh it so it can be duplicated from there on out.  Jacks Battle Powder and Goex (both 3F) weigh nowhere the same with the same volume.  Best not to worry cause it can drive you crazy.
