Ca. gold fields knife of 1850

This old knife is from the Ca. Gold Rush period, , 12" blade, over 17" length, enscribed with a name, date (1850) and town , Hangtown, the original name of Placerville, Ca. Found in Coloma, Ca. near Sutters Mill where Gold was discovered in 1849. Got it when I was up there at a shoot called the "Hangtown Hassel" in about 1974 I think. Probably just an ordinary knife of the time but I've always liked it, thought some of you might enjoy seeing it. H12  Has a brass cap on the end of the handle that's not visible.

That's a great knife. I really like the BIG clip point Bowies. I've got one here that is very similar except it's about 150 years younger.

Mongo, no, I didn't find it, I got it from a family who had found it in some old building many yrs. before.
