I attempted to do a wire inlay of my makers mark on the end of the haft of my tomahawk today. This is my first attempt. Anybody have any suggestions as to how to do wire inlay?

No experience here, but I was told by someone who does wire inlays that one very important step is to score the SIDES of the groove before you put the wire in (undercut the edges). It keeps the wire from slowly working its way loose.

Nicely done.

Correction: Score the sides of the WIRE not the wood!

That also increases  the chip out,not to mention how would you get a tool into the sides of a slit @.015 wide? Roughing the wire is plenty good. Occasionaly over the course of 200 years some wire may come loose, wood moves,NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. Good job! Other than the rough end's,it look's good. Do you use any kind of magnification? It's not cheating if it let's you see!
