any ideas on toning down or recoloring a "tandy orange" elk hide?  would like  to make some leggins from it. however at some of the 'vous I go to it is considered bad form to show up in the bright color.  I would like to tone it down to a brown or even a cream but retain the suppleness it has now.  any ideas out there?

Hang it in the sun, it will fade just like fabric.

So Did they or does any one Put a Waterproofing or ??? on the Leggins??
Or do they Smoke them to get the Leather not to soak in moisture???
And would doing so fix the color problem?!
I use Wool Leggins now but someday I would like to make some Elk ones.
