I also know Old Salt uses his products so you can ask him about Don's work

I personally have this to say about his work:  I bought my pyramid used and after the smoke hole deteriorated I asked Don about his lifetime warranty - I told him straight up I was the second owner of the tent and he sent me at no charge the smoke whole piece, had we been able to meet up, or me ship it to him he would have installed it at no charge either...

My Fly is his 12X15 and had I wanted I could have had wings put on it to match the angle of the Pyramid but in my foolish cheap state i could not afford the extra cost so went with a straight fly.  You can see pictures of my camp throughout the site and some show the fly

I have used Panther tents for more than 20 years, but after the last one I bought, (I was very disappointed) I became a distributor for Red Hawk Trading. Most of the Traders I know are starting to use, or have been using, his tents. As Traders, we not only use our tentage far more often then the average skinner, we count on them to protect our livelihood. Naturally we use the best we can find. If you are interested you can go through me, or buy direct. If you do buy direct, mention you heard about it from Shea's Mountain. I don't know if it will save you any money, but it couldn't hurt!

I have used a panther fly for the past 7 years and have had no problems at all, very satisfied with it.

I talked with Don Strinz today, who is a tent maker. He told me the problem is you can't get quality canvas anymore, at any price. Had to do with EPA regs, something had to left out of the manufacturing process. And it's more expensive on top of it... You are actually better off to buy a used tent, something 5 years old, maybe used once or twice a year.

Have you gone to home depot or some place like it? If you are going to make ie,they sell 2 different oz canvas tarps. You might check there or at a paint store.Just a thought..

for anybody interested in good quality and inexpensive canvas, check Utrecht Art Supplies.  IIRC they carry canvas up to 12 foot wide and  100 ft long.   Many years ago I purchased a piece that was 8 x 20 and made both a fly and a 30 in x 30 in camp shower.  I could have purchased narrower pieces for just a slight amount less, but saved the hassle of sewing them together.   I didn't use grommets, but sewed cloth tape ties to the corners of the fly   Also for those who really need to be HC, they also sell linen canvas in addition to cotton canvas.
