Okay, found to good places to check out.  The first place has winter mocs, boots and such that are maybe period inspired, but when it comes to keeping your feet warm I can compromise; http://www.sheepskinandthings.com/Snowshoe-Boots_c7.htm
Next is to make your own, first using wool as your hide to make a shoe pac, then while wearing the wool shoe pacs/liners, trace your feet and then cut the patterns using a real hide of your choice; http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/topic/14813
Or you can look at this pattern; http://www.nativetech.org/clothing/moccasin/mocinstr.html

Boy William, there's a link in that moc tut for an Eskimo thimble you can make, something I been looking for for a long time. Course I'll make it from leather and maybe back it w/ something stiffer.

Well isn't that a dandy little thing?  So simple too, I'm glad you spotted that and I think I will have to make one too.
