First I wish to wish all a happy and prosperous New Year.
My 17 yr old grandson Brandon and I were able to slip off to the range for a bit in the 41 degree weather on the last day of the year.
We went to the Milan, Illinois Rifle club covered range. This is his first time shooting black powder. He is a crack shot and owns more guns than I due to the passing of a thoughtfull grandfather.
We took a couple percussions and a flinter that I just spent a lot of time getting a decent spark out of.
We consumed about a 1/3 lb. of 3F in the short time. The percussion 45 long rifle was the best shooring rifle by a long margin.  The post Hatfield model half stock is a .54 and will have to work up a good load. It was, as it sits, hitting 16" at 4:00 to the right at 100 yds. Need better weather and more time to work that out. The .45 flinter was close on the sights but neither one of us were holding well with it. Brandon asked if it could be switched to percussion. (  GULP) lol
It sure was a nice way to end the shooting season, and Brandon is pumped to enjoy the Muzzloading deer season come fall with lots of practice of course.
I was dissapointed that I forgot the camera but took a couple pictures this am of the rifles we used. RBMJS

That's great.  Maybe you've added one more bp shooter to our numbers.  Nice rifles. :applause:
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

You made some great memories for the kid and not so bad ones for you either.  ET  'shok'
