Title: Postal Shoot?
Post by: Hanshi on April 13, 2019, 07:52:51 PM
It's starting to warm up and spring is already here.  Anyone interested in a MAY postal shoot?  Not easy to do in thigh deep snow but that is now over.  The only reason I brought this up is because one of my rifles asked me about it the other day and I said I'd check on it.  Ooookay, so I have.

Sure, Hanshi.  You haven't kicked my butt for quite a while now.  Let's do it.

Maybe this year you guys can go for the highest score. Just sayin'.

Highest score?  You mean a real hole in the paper this time?  Now, I did once shoot a 2" group at 100 yards for 5 shots.  I was at the 95 yard line at the time; but, hey, still 5 shots & 100 yards!   Just saying. (susp)

Holy Crow! 5 shots at a 100 yards? I'm lucky if I can get a group at 50. pnic Outline the rules and I'll think about it.

Oh Oh.  Your are asking Hanshi to set the rules????  Guess this makes 3 of us in the game so far.

The normal range for our postal matches is 25 yds for offhand and 50 for bench rest.

Strange that the first post that I read in a while is about postals. I think that I must have heard Flintboomer's rifle as well. Mine are not talking to me for feeling neglected.

I'm game for a good ol' fashion 25 & 50 yard shoot.  Rules should specify; 1.  a loaded gun.  2.  flint, cap or match.  3.  paper targets with markings.   wtch hntr [hmm]

Mine are feeling a bit neglected strpot and have been calling my name lately.

The usual 600yd target reduced?

Does anyone have a good novelty target that they like and can provide a link to?

We were going to use Hanshi's forum picture, but since he is using a picture of me and claiming it's him, well maybe we won't.  bunkr

It would seem that there is not a fight over who gets to collect and post scores so if no one objects, I will receive and post scores. I may not get to shoot in May due to an upcoming back surgery but can certainly do the scoring.

Please don't take radio silence as any form of criticism, reprobation, or disapproval. It's not. It's simply low traffic overall in this forum and it seems, many others. I know that I usually just skim over the posts and didn't catch this one. Pretty much all volunteers are joyfully accepted. I speak for myself and I'm sure most anyone else who didn't chime in that we are thankful that you are willing to judge the postal shoots. Just remember to have fun with it.

Now it's time to get back to harassing Hanshi for me.

Yes, Blackfeet, thanks for taking over that job.  dntn

Everyone knows I'm not, well, trustworthy; but that is only in the sense that I'm not worthy of trust.  [hmm]  That could have been better stated.  noway

Let's see now.  Specifics on shooting??  25 & 50??  I promise not to go up to 5 yards from the target to shoot the 50 yard - assuming that's one of the categories - target like I did with the 100 yard one.

It rains about every day so it will take all month long to get a shooting day wedged in.  hntr

I can relate to the dang rain as I am only a bit left of you..........not to be confused

just got the word from my surgeon, things have changed drastically in only 15 months. What was supposed to be a single level correction has turned into a 4 level stop-gap to rapidly advancing arthritis of the spine. So....no significant recoil allowed. Gonna have to shoot the 32 squirrel gun....

The point of exit stage left was not a dig. I truly believe that I should share and perhaps some new blood can compel some old duffers off their duffs and take part. Flintboomer and I have tried to shame you all into actually shooting those beauties that you claim to possess............... :mini-devil-28492:

I have an excuse, I live in Kalifornia where shooters are lumped together with serial killers and terrorists. There are only two places (one private, one public) within 100 miles that I can shoot over 10 yards. And my truck gets 9.5 mpg on the freeway. Did I mention that gas is now over $4 a gallon here again?  hdslp

Blackfeet, I believe the lack of a response was due to the fact that this post was initiated by Hanshi. Since we are used to his antics, I don't believe anyone took this thread seriously ... just another Hanshi excursion into  the unknown.
I'm sure it had nothing to do with your integrity.

Antics!!  I wouldn't call them that.   noway  I sorta lump them in with "drive by smilings".

But let's do get this match going and have some fun.  [While I probably am not physically able to hunt any longer - only managed one outing a year for the past few years and zero last year - I do have access to a shooting range]  and that's with 20/40 vision in my dominate eye and a blind spot on my retina.  For a while I've been shooting by sense of smell which loses bit of precision, I might add.

Hey, Red Badger!  You about ready to start administering spankings??

Okay, now!  With the entire month of May to go, we should have a good group of shooters.  Daily rain is the bugaboo up here and I'll need all month to get a non rain day.  This has been missed for a while, by me, and I'm sure by others as well.

Blackfeet
Thanks for stepping up as scorer again.

Download the target here:

http://traditionalmuzzleloadingcheap.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=9136.0;attach=5659

The target is the 600 yd reduced to 100. Be sure to set your printer to print at 100% so we are all shooting at the same size target.

Pistol target is the same as the rifle target, and that means that a COMPLETE MISS can be reshot. Just shoot 5 holes in the target.

email the targets to Drei.Krahen@gmail.com.

After I printed my copy a few years ago I had a bunch of them zeroxed off so I'd have a decent supply on hand.

I think I'll get to the range tomorrow and shoot the rifle part.  Supposed to be a nice day with no rain.  Later I'll try the pistol part.   hntr
Title: Re: Postal Shoot?
Post by: Hanshi on May 14, 2019, 07:42:16 PM
So far we haven't heard from anyone concerning how their shooting is going so I'll report on mine.  I took my .45 out over a week ago and did the offhand and bench targets.  The offhand target managed a very tight 4-shot group and a flyer that was still in the black.  An otherwise very good target.  By "otherwise" I mean the rifle was shooting to the right and the group was at least an inch too far from the good score rings.  It is the kind of target I might brag about if it wasn't for score.  Impressive group but in the wrong place.

Now to the bench 50yd.  I've had shotgun patterns group tighter at that distance!  If we can get a day without rain - yeah, sure - I'll go out with my .36 and try again.  I'm going to hang onto the previously fired offhand target just in case.  It's at least good enough for maybe next-to-last place.  Still have yet to shoot the pistol.   pnic

I finally got the 25 yd shot. :qz:
It doesn't look good and I don't know if its me or the gun, but it used to be my best shooter.
I will try to get more done later but I had a chance to encourage a rookie and I won't usually pass up a chance to recruit black powder shooters.

First, check your downloads folder (i.e. the folder on your computer where files go when you download them) and see if the target is there.  I clicked on the link and it was automatically dumped into my download folder, it didn't open a separate page on the forum.  If it isn't there, pm me your email address and I'll send it to you as an attachment.  It's not a large file, 97.2 KB so shouldn't clutter up your mailbox.

If anyone has a problem downloading the targets let me know - I just checked the link and got them in my download file area...

I will probably not be shooting this month - too much water and high winds have made my range ( and back yard) impassable - will try if the weather clears but more storms forecasted this week.

I re-shot the 25 yd and the 50 yd targets today and, and while far from good, they are a little better than the first ones.  Now I have to find a day dry enough to shoot the pistol target.

Was hoping to shoot this last weekend but did not get time. Had to do all the chores before getting my back done.

Be kind to yourself, Blackfeet; take care of your body.  It's tough to refrain from jumping back on the maverick right after you get thrown off, but there's plenty of time.

I stuffed my two rifle targets in an envelope and will mail them tomorrow.  Never did get to shoot the pistol because it rains every confounded day!
