     I'll start this off.
In 1823 Samuel Hawkins built a rifle for Gen. Ashley, it was reported to be .68 cal. 42 in. barrel full stock some think it may have been smiler to a Leman. It was later called a Supper hawkin by Samuel Hawkin him self.

Well what I'm saving for is a 69 full stocked 38, to 42 in Hawkin in Blackwalnut with a very slow twist 1 in 100 in. to 1 in 120 in., and a patch box in a flint lock

Yeah I know that will kick like a mule and will run 15 lbs or more with a tapered, or swamped barrel, tho weight will help keep recoil down sum.

Well its been ordered, Steve Zihn, its a 2 year wait.
            1. Ed Rayle barrel 42in. 1 1/8 tapered to 15/16, cal. 62  Forsith rifling 1 in 56.
            2. Black walnut med to medhigh figure.
            3. Lock flint, either L+R or Chambers depending which is correct.

had a .69 cal pa rifle rifled 1 turn in 70 , target load was 120 grains of 2f  and a tight patched round ball . no kick at all , the rifle weighed in at 14 lbs with a wide fairly flat buttplate ! even 150 grain charge did`nt kick much .you ever have the chance to get that hawken built ,go for it . the big rifles are fun to shoot , and they scare the bejesus out of the green horns ,and flat landers !  ROFL

I droped down from 69 to 62 to save some on the kick, still a 62 should able to take any thing native to North America, IE Griz, and Buffalo

Whitworth target rifle. Last I knew Parker-Hale quit making them so it might be a longish wait. In mean I time can't seem to let go of my Zoli Remington Zouave .58 caliber.
