Make sure you are using Brass or some other kind of soft jaw in your vice. Dont ask how I know that.

Got a barrel and plug cheap..former owner used pipe wrenches for seperation....just hammer & punch teeth marks back into ditches and smooth out..came out OK.  Ignorance isn't always great if you aren't smart enough to ask questions....What is that instruction sheet for????

I hear you...

Got a cabinet lock in the other day that the threads were all mangled on, customer couldn't get the nut off so used a vise grip on the lock body to turn it until the nut moved enough so he could get to it....

then got upset when I told him to buy a new lock...  go figure..

I just should have kept my mouth shut.

Dont forget to stamp a couple of witness marks on the under side of the barrel and plug so you can make sure they re align properly.

As far as the pipe wrench thing goes.....ali I can say is ouch. I wouldnt do it that way but if it works it works.

Well, I had planned to use some blocks of hard wood to clamp between the barrel/tang and jaws to avoid having to explain that "No, no, it wasnt a shark that grabbed the rifle...."
Problem is, it is a traditions crockett patent breech type thing, so I am cautious of tearing into it. Neighbor has a nice machine vice and prolly the proper tools to accomplish the mission. Just have to wait for him to get back from Colorado. Needa make some money to buy the barrel, under rib, thimbles, tap, and the rest of the doodads.

Its possible the drum screws in through the plug also which will lock it in place. CVA were like this .

No drum, snail looking thing, like a T/C but different, LOL!
