Honey as medicine

Here are some uses of honey  done before big pharma took over.

Honey is interesting stuff.  Tasty, medicinal but not recommended for babies under, IIRC, 2 yoa but could be a bit younger.  The problem seems to be the presence of STREP, I think but it could be something else.  Apparently your immune system develops far enough quickly enough it can be tolerated.  I thing it's just trace in honey and not a too big a deal.

It is under 1 year of age. This is the labeling requirement in Mississippi to warn users of the danger. It is round and yellow with black printing.

"Labeling Requirements
MSDH has mandated a warning phrase be included on honey labels for retail sales in Mississippi (Figure 1). If a beekeeper has labels that do not contain the warning phrase, they may purchase stickers with the warning phrase from beekeeping equipment suppliers. These stickers are usually small circles that will fit on the top of most honey jar lids. MSDH wants to warn consumers that spores from botulin-producing bacteria could be in some honey and that the immune systems of infants under 1 year of age may not protect them from infection. The bacteria can cause severe illness and even death in infants."


Warning phrase text on sticker reads: Warning! Do not feed to infants under 1 year of age.
