started life as a 50cal but due to colorado changed their rules on round balls and now making 54cal minimum, I had to rebarrel. Luckily I found a brand new cva barrel which only needed a few things fitted and changed to fit on my traditions. The biggest was cutting a dovetail to replace the barrel tenon and then adjusting the drum to line up with the nipple. In all, it worked out fine and she's been a heck of a shooting rifle, even out to 200 yards.

last 3 shot at 100 in the bulls eye with 80gr 2fg gearhart owen, .020" patch and .530 round balls.

Nice looking rifle. Simple, formidable, obviously gets the job done.   hntr   Can't ask for anything more than that.   thmbsup
I am the one your mom warned you about!

The .54 is the largest rifle I've owned and hunt with; great all around caliber especially out west.  Nice pin work on the stock.
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

BuckskinMtnMan Nice Rifle and nice Work! Good luck with the hunt!

What is the twist rate on that new barrel?

I love my 54's and the CVA barrels are spot on with a round ball. Nice looking rifle to boot!

Hanshi

I agree.  The old CVA I used to hunt with was a precise shooter.
