[hmm] I have been wanting to build or put something together for a while. I have an old CVA 45 Kentucky rifle barrel that was rusted bad, but after cleaning and a rifle bore light looking at it,. It is real  good after the first 6 inches past the muzzle. So I will build the Kentucky pistol kit and be able to convert back and forth to a Bounty Pistol with an 18 or so inch barrel....I have a rib and ramrod thimble to put on the Bounty Barrel...  I have looked for parts and prices and discovered I can buy a complete Kentucky Pistol kit way cheaper than buying all the parts to make the Bounty Pistol ?!?  pnic pnic   And since CVA has kept the breach end the same sizes for years it looks like it will work out well?!  pnic pnic

Hanshi

Now that should work out very nicely.  thmbsup
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

Watauga

Well,..this is the 33 inch barrel in the Pistol stock just for fun  pnic pnic

Well it will definitely have a generous sight radius.

Now that's my kind of modification. Love it.  dntn
I am the one your mom warned you about!

When you finish it we need a picture or a video of you firing it one handed.  thmbsup
You DID say it was still going to be a pistol didn't you?  blah

OK So an update on the Progress [hmm] and new dilemmas  hdslp on the Bounty Kentucky Pistol build...  I installed the rear sight and cut a dovetail for the Front Rifle sight on the shortened barrel (17 inch)   This rifle was so old that the barrel tenons were welded on pnic pnic ?? No problem Right? I just cut it off with the Dremel tool thmbsup ....but now I dicover,.. the welds are Exactly the place ware I need to drill and tap for the Nose-piece screws  pnic pnic  So,..How hard is that steel going to be??  I also put a belt hook on the pistol and it looks like it will work out quite well  thmbsup  More sanding and then figuring out if I need add a tenon and pin the longer barrel to the pistol stock [hmm]

OK,. So now an update on the Progress [hmm] and new dilemmas  hdslp on the Bounty Kentucky Pistol build. I still need to drill the long barrel for the Rib and Thimble and install it. but so far so good thmbsup  and [hmm]  I need to make a Ramrod for the Bounty Barrel as well ... hntr

I really like the job you did. The short barrel looks the best.

beowulf

that`l look a whole lot better with the under rib and thimbles !

flintboomer

It should shoot ok with or without the underrib.

It may take a fairly heavy charge to shoot its best since that was a rifle barrel and they are normally a slower twist than a pistol barrel.
That said, it should shoot fine at 25 yds even with a light charge. I have a .44 rifle that used to be shot regularly with 10 gr 3f and it shot fine to 25 yds. It didn't have enough velocity to do much past 50 yds, but the little girl that I made it for loved it and I shot it that way at times too.

My .40 Lange flinter shoots ok at 25 yds with 20 gr 3f but prefers 40-45 gr for general work. That light charge just kind of goes poof instead of bang in a rifle but it still puts a hole in the paper.

the steel on those barrels ( in fact any muzzleloader barrel ) isn`t all that hard ! fairly easy to work , drilling should be no problem at all !

just a thought.  shouldn't to fore stock be as long as the barrel??  with so short a ramrod, the patched bullet will never be seated and firing the gun can and will result in a burst barrel and personal injury.  What am I missing?
