I forgot it was a flintlock, there is no drum and most of their flintlocks did`nt even have a touch hole liner . might not be that bad at all !

Looks like something Dirty Harry's great great grandfather might have pulled from under his coat.
bmtshooter Yep,.. I think Dirty Harry's great great grandfather would approve!!   'Do you feel lucky, punk?'  Did I Prime the Pan or not Punk?..... thmbsup  hdslp  pnic pnic pnic

Well with the Bounty Kentucky Pistol finished... [hmm] I had to come up with a way to store and reload and shoot it  pnic pnic  So I made a few modifications to my pistol loading stand and now even have a way to store the regular pistol barrel on it so I can change back and fourth between a Bounty Pistol and a Kentucky Pistol,.. Just in-case they don't think it is Too fair for someone to be using half a long-rifle as a pistol??  ROFL ROFL

That is so cool. I like it, nice work. Have you shot it yet?

Better work on building up your arm strength in order to hold that sucker up for an offhand shot.

Remember my address is listed here - I have to test fire all builds/ new acquisitions to insure they are safe for our members... so just ship it to me and I'll get it proofed in a week or so and if all goes well you 'll get it back in a year or two... IF it fails, you  will get it back in a week or two  pnic  :applause:  :mini-devil-28492:

Let me add that LEGALLY the pistol can't be tested/fired until I examine it and am satisfied it is safe and does not violate any existing federal laws.  This only takes a few months, 9 or 10, for my approval or denial.

Hanshi, Don't bet on that fast a turnover.  Last time the Feds came and got one of my barrels for testing I got it back in 16mo.

OK Range Report on the Bounty Pistol....Sort of?!?  The Fort Greenville Muzzle Loaders had our Spring Camp..It was Small Camp this year because of the Corona Virus. But I had the Chance and so I went camping and shooting! thmbsup  I took along the Bounty Pistol to try it out...Since it was a rifle barrel with a slow twist rifling I had read someplace that a small charge lets the slow rifling work better  [hmm]  so I tried my normal plinking charge from my other Kentucky pistol of 20 grains for my first shot. I primed the pan and aimed and pulled the trigger thmbsup But  pnic pnic I got a flash in the Pan?  :'(  I re-primed and Fired again  pnic I got another flash in the Pan? hdslp... I picked the vent again and noticed it felt very hard in there??  Turns out 20+/- grains in a Rifle Barrel puts the Ball directly behind the vent hole  'shok'  So I effectively Dry balled with powder in the barrel?? after pulling the ball the Woods Walk started so I will give it a try next shoot,.. probably try 30 grains? or just add powder till I can feel the powder with the pick and use that as the minimum?? Unless someone knows the minimum load for a 1960's CVA 45 Kentucky Rifle??  And I still had a very good Time! and some good luck thmbsup And had my best Hawk and Knife Score ever!
And the lying and refreshments around the camp Fire was Excellent!! They did not order medallions for this years camp because we didn't even know if we would be able to have our 2 day May Shoot and Camp because of the Virus pnic ?!?  So I made a fitting Medallion for the Camp Myself..  thmbsup  And,..I am pretty sure Rocky was Drinking on guard duty? but he is denying it....   ;D  so I will just take his word on it....

Glad you could make it out. We are still mostly shut down but there is talk of opening ranges up by mid June.   :applause:

According to the old, yellowed CVA load chart I have on hand, the recommended powder load for accuracy (PBR and 3f) is 40-65 grains. The maximum recommended load is 95 grains.

If it were me, as scary as that thought might be, I would start at 30 grains and work up from there. We were shooting the Howdah pistol with it's 11" barrel, tightly patched 50 cal ball, and 50 grains of 3f with no problems at all. Of course there was no accuracy at all either but there was a nice flame spurting out the end of the barrel!
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Hanshi

In my .50 flint pistol I'll use 20 to 30 grains 3F for targets and general shooting.  When it goes with me into the bush it is loaded with at least 40 grains of 3F.  Recoil with heavier loads is a bit more than with my .44 mag.

hotfxr  Thanks for the load information  thmbsup and advice! Those Howdah pistols are Way Cool and must be a Hoot to shoot....Especially at twilight or at night... thmbsup
Hanshi yes I Should have realised the just because the Tang and breach on the CVA/Traditions look the same on the outside and the Vent is in the same place [hmm] the Powder volume in the breach  [hmm] is different between a rifle and pistol barrel pnic pnic

hotfxr

My pleasure. By the way, when Hanshi is done testing it, make sure he sends it out to me for West coast testing, before it gets to Red Badger. He can't hit anything anyway so he winds up using rifles as clubs. It's not pretty.  ROFL

It is a good looking pistol and I am happy that you got it done even with HOTFXR's meddling....  Enjoy it !  I am travelling on Kansas so can't give you more encouragement right now....

Kansas?!?!?  Why? That's one of those states in the middle that are only there in theory. I don't even think it's a real state.  ROFL   ROFL
