Hey folks! Just a heads up....

I posted up a couple of gun building projects in the past and the gang seemed to enjoy them so here we go again...

My build will be an underhammer design centered around the Pete Allen Underhammer Action. This will be my 2nd underhammer and my 3rd build using one of Allen's actions.
The goal is for a modern styled, lightweight hunting rifle. The barrel is an eBay find, .45 cal., Fluted version which began life as a Winchester Model 150, bolt action inline. I cut the barrel ahead of the bolt housing area exposing the threads for the removable breech plug. A stroke of luck surprised me with the fact that the threads were 5/8" X 18 which is a standard size for a breech plug. All I needed to do was to machine the rear of the barrel so that the breech plug would bottom out while lining up top dead center.
Laying the parts out on the blank revealed that the rifle was going to be too heavy out front so I cut nearly 7" from the muzzle end.
From there I recrowned the muzzle and now the carbine will be nice and short. From the face of the breech plug to the muzzle the barrel measures 19". This will be a handy little rifle which I'm hoping will weigh in at somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 lbs.
Here are some pics to help explain the work as it's progressed so far:

Seemingly unfired, .45 cal., fluted barrel from a Winchester Mod. 150, bolt action inline:

Cheap ($35) rough shaped stock blank:

Pete Allen Underhammer Action:

Removing the bolt housing, fitting the breechplug and cutting and re-crowning the muzzle

Next I'll drill and tap for the nipple and begin inletting the components into the blank.

Rasor,
I'm an UH guy also. What you've got started looks very good. Will look forward to following your build.

Thanks Mark! Since you're an underhammer guy I thought you'd like to see one my earlier builds. Centered around  another of Pete Allen's actions:

Rasor,
I think I saw that one when you were working on it or had just finished it, Very Nicely done. I'm finishing up a Pete Allen side hamer 1/2 stock, as we speak, in .75 caliber, rifled. Probably be ready to sight in end of the week. I like Pete's actions, UH and side hammer. I have heard he wasn't doing any right now and it's questionable if he'll get back at it.

Razor, you do extremely fine work (an understatement).  I like UH rifles and my first ML was an UH.  I'm looking forward to pics of the completed rifle.
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

Thanks folks. Your feedback / comments are welcomed and encouraged as that's what makes posting up the build worthwhile.

Papa, I'm not familiar with Pete's side hammer unless you're referring to the boxlock action. I built a .58 cal. rifle with one of those. Very nice action indeed. I'd love to see some pics of your rifle or should I say cannon? .75 cal.?  Whoohoo!!!!!

Papa

Razor,
That is the action. Mine appears to be an oversized one as the barrel is 1 5/16" at the breech. Will get some pics out as soon as I finish assembling it.
