Copper?

Along with making things go boom, a friend and I experiment with different, well, things. After figuring out how to Parkerize steel, most of my hand tools are now rust free and have a nice dark finish on them. Then we came up with a recipe to copper plate iron and steel. Not electroplate, but using a copper sulfate suspension fluid diluted with vinegar and dipping the steel into it. The solution becomes ionized and bonds with clean steel. We are claiming without any evidence that this was used by the Navy in Colonial times to prevent rust at sea. It also does a job on hawks and knives. Can't wait to spring these on the frontloader club next month.

I`ve done that !  and it was a total accident !  it was a damascus knife blade , some of the pattern took the copper , and others did`nt , made for an interesting effect ! dont ask , still not sure what caused it !
