at a recent woodswalk, a fellow got his rammer stuck down bore with a jag and
patch,he normaly carries a t handle for just this problem but forgot it. I remembered I had a mainspring vice inmy pouch, just clamped it to the rod and had a great handle to pull her out

Good thinking !  One thing I made specifically for that occasion is a sorta t handle out of an antler tine just drilled a hole for a 10-32 bolt in the middle and epoxyed in place I can just thread that into my rod since I have a cap on each end and get some leverage on it .  One other thing I learned last spring while shooting with some friends , he tried swabbing his bore with a dry patch and yes it stuck , just poured a little bit of water down the barrel waited a minute and came right out .

A little creativity goes a long way; but a mainspring vice, might have eluded me.  About the only times I've ever stuck a rod was when pulling out dry balls.  Good thinking.
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

I have seen shooters run patches down the barrel between shot and that patched rod would stick because the patch was to dry. they would pour a little bit of bore cleaner in and pull the rod out with out any problem.

I have a rubber "arrow puller" I keep in my bag. It works great.
