TC kit Hawken finally starting to shoot

I have been having trouble getting my Hawken 45 to group smaller than a shotgun pattern.  I was using the recommended .440 balls and .015 patch and having no luck.  I got some .018 pillow ticking and went back out today.  I was using shooting sticks but it was very windy and pushing me around some.  I'm pretty sure it was the wind causing the horizontal stringing.  Shooting at about 25 yards and I think I finally did something right.  The flyer on the right was me pulling the wrong trigger.  The orange spot is 3 inches and all the groups were 3 shots.  So now I have to back up some and see if my luck holds.  I should frame the target because I never ever shoot that well.  I was using Black MZ.

Russell,
That TC should shoot a lot tighter than what you are showing us. I started with a TC and shot them for a long time, still have a few in the back rack. I always used .445 ball in the .45 caliber and .495 ball in the .50 Caliber. If I were you, I'd try some .445 ball and .015 patches. You don't say what your powder charge was but once again if I remember correctly I think I was shooting around 55-60 grains of FFFg.
At 25 yards you should be cutting those groups in half or better.

Russ,
That's what I found with mine...tight and 50grs.  Used that for Senica runs at NMLRA winter shoot and took home the metals,

Tried again today.  This was at 50 meters, 5 shots.  Time to stop fiddling with loads and adjust the sights I think.  The high one was me.

Looks like you found the sweet spot.  I don't think my old eyes will allow those kind of groups with open sights anymore.  Good shooting  dntn

Thanks for the complement.  I have been paying close attention to the advice posted here or I would still be beating my head on the wall.  That group was shot off of a concrete bench with a good stool - my offhand won't be nearly as good but at least I know the gun will shoot. Now I get to practice off hand and I won't be posting any pictures of that.

I'm pretty sure the accuracy is taken care of, now.  If you're satisfied with it then go ahead and adjust the sights.
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.
